Welcome to the Introduction to Astronomy course. During this course you’ll discover different ways of looking at the night sky. Gain an appreciation for historical astronomy and how that influenced present astronomical observations and discovery. Finally, you’ll explore the wide variety of different astronomical objects you can target and how you find them in the night sky.
Throughout this course, you’ll gain star gazing skills including learning how to read star maps and find objects in the sky using methods such as star hopping. This will lead into a variety of practical activities and challenges aimed at helping you explore and effectively use your new skills.
You’ll investigate how significant figures in history have helped build an understand of both how to observe objects, and how to understand more about the characteristics of these remote objects. You’ll also compare the different types of modern-day equipment used for star gazing and identify the best tools and techniques you can use at home to kick start your stargazing adventures..
